If you ever find yourself without running water in your house, don’t worry – there could be a simple solution that you may be able to sort out yourself without having to give us a call. Read through these steps to check for simple solutions to having no running water.
Check other taps in your house
If one of your taps has no running water, make sure you check other taps in your house. Test some downstairs and some upstairs to rule out an internal water pressure issue. If it is just one of your taps that is not working, it may be blocked. If you feel comfortable, turn the water off at the mains and remove the tap to check for any visible blockages, otherwise give us a call and we can come and help you out.
Make sure your stopcocks are open
Take a look at the main stopcock and ensure it is open as it should be. If you are able to access it, you can also check your external stopcock, which is usually located close to the boundary of your property. If one is closed, ensure it is turned anticlockwise to open it, this should restore running water to your house.
See if any of your pipes are frozen
This may only be relevant for certain parts of the year, but if it is frosty outside, take a look to see if any of your water pipes are frozen. If so, take a jug of hot (but not boiling) water and gently pour on the frozen area.
Ask your neighbours and check for incidents
If you are sure it is not an internal plumbing issue, pop round to your neighbours and ask if they are also experiencing no running water. You can also check with your water provider for any known or reported incidents in your local area. If there has been a burst water pipe or issue near you, they should be able to let you know how long it will take to fix.
